Wedding flutes are used by the bride and groom during the wedding toasts, and can be found in a variety of styles. They are often saved to use each anniversary.

The wedding toast is a traditional part of most receptions, making toasting glasses a necessity at virtually every nuptial celebration. Although some brides and grooms will use the glasses offered by the reception hall without qualm, many prefer to choose special wedding flutes in advance, to use during the wedding speeches.

What are Wedding Toasting Glasses?

Toasting wedding glasses are sold in pairs, and are special wine glasses that are meant to be used by the bride and groom to toast to their new married life together.

Although there are many designs and styles, most wedding toasting glasses are actually champagne flutes – tall stemware with a narrow bowl. Flutes are traditionally used to drink sparkling wines and certain types of beer, and have become the glasses of choice for newlyweds to use during the toasts in their honor.

The Wedding Toast

Custom has it that the best man gives the first toast in honor of the bride and groom. This toast is often followed by others: the parents, maid/matron of honor, other members of the bridal party, and often the bride and groom themselves.

After each toast, but most especially the first one, the newlyweds drink from a special pair of wedding toasting flutes to celebrate their first moments as a married couple.

Styles and Types of Wedding Flutes

As with any other wedding accessory choice, there are more than enough wedding flute options to confuse even the most particular bride. Some of the most elegant and popular choices include:

  • Simple Wedding Champagne Flutes: The classic flute has an elegant form and goes with every type of wedding décor. This simple choice is timeless and graceful.
  • Wedding Toasting Glasses with Accents: Accent ribbons, symbols, or engravings can be used as a tie in with the theme of the day – for instance, a starfish or seashell for a beach wedding, or an engraving of holly for a Christmas wedding.
  • Vase and Toasting Flutes (or "Baseless" Wedding Flutes): One of the most unusual versions of the wedding toasting glasses has two "baseless" flutes – champagne glasses with stems but no solid base to stand on - rest in a larger vase as a symbol of the unity of the newly wedded couple.
  • Personalized Wedding Toasting Glasses: The bride and groom's names or the date can be engraved as a nice touch on personalized glasses.

Personalizing the Wedding Flutes

In most cases, it's possible to personalize the wedding flutes with the names of the bride and groom, the date, or any other engraving. These kinds of details make the glasses even more special as a token of the marriage and a way to remember this special moment in years to come and on the wedding anniversary.
