Music is an integral part of a wedding service. Most couples need to plan music for the wedding service and the reception.
Most couples expect to have music at their wedding. However, for many it is the first time they have ever been called on to plan music for an event and hire people to execute those plans. Many couples have experienced the final product of wedding planning and have no idea what is involved in selecting, planning, and providing appropriate music for the wedding ceremony and reception. Music for a Religious Wedding VenueCouples planning weddings at religious venues generally make contact with religious facilities soon after wedding planning begins. This makes logical sense since couples need to reserve a date for the wedding and many religions require premarital counseling. When couples make contact with their religious site, this is a great time to find out about wedding music. Couples should find out what expectations and restrictions exist at their religious facility. Never make assumptions. Even within faith traditions, different places of worship can have different rules and traditions regarding wedding music. Some venues restrict music to specific approved religious music. Others require couples to utilize specific musicians and music professionals that work at the facility. Some are very open and allow couples more freedom in choosing music and wedding music professionals to perform at the service. Couples should make an appointment to speak with the music director at the Church, Temple, or religious facility. This person is generally the best qualified to help couples negotiate finding music they want and will be appropriate to the venue. Secular Wedding Ceremony MusicSome couples find musical freedom to be an advantage of using a secular wedding venue. Many couples enjoy the ability to choose secular music that some Churches and religious venues do not find appropriate. Couples have the ability to plan a ceremony that utilizes music in a more independent way that reflects a couples wishes. The freedom can also be a challenge. Couples using a secular venue often have to design their own wedding music program. Those who choose this route should check with the chosen site to find out if there are any musical restrictions. Are there any professionals one is required to hire or pay if one uses other professionals? This tends puts more work on couples who choose this route, but it does provide individuals with more freedom. Wedding Reception Music OptionsMost wedding receptions include some kind of music. Couples may or may not have dancing, but most do have some kind of music played. DJ’s are a common choice for many couples. One of the reasons they are chosen is that they can provide a wide variety of music over a long period. Couples can expect to pay a minimum of four-hour contract for services. While it is possible to hire vendors without a contract, couples should consider the benefits a contract provides for them. Bands are generally the other choice of wedding reception music. There is something special about live music played at an event. Couples planning a special event often feel a band adds something to the affair. Many engaged couples will preview wedding bands to determine if the band is appropriate for their plans. This is something couples can do to prevent being disappointed by the quality of service received. Couples are presented with wedding challenges. Wedding music can be less of a challenge when couples utilize resources available to help them plan.
