Wedding candy buffets are a trendy crowd pleaser, and it's easy to set up an elegant wedding candy table with bulk, custom or old fashioned candy, chocolates, and more.

Candy buffets are almost as popular as a wedding cake at modern receptions, making the choice and design of a wedding candy table a fun and notable part of the preparations.

What is a Candy Buffet?

Sometimes called a "wedding candy table" or "wedding candy bars," candy buffets can be a part of the dessert, available as an hors d'oeuvre before the meal is served, or set out as a "make your own" party favor table for guests to take home.

The idea is to set up a gorgeous spread of candy where guests can browse and indulge their sweet tooths during the wedding reception. It's not only part of the food – a candy buffet is also a centerpiece and a vibrant part of the reception's décor.

Designing a Candy Buffet

The essential wedding candy buffet has elegant glass jars filled with candy of all types, from jelly beans to chocolate kisses. More containers are always better, even if it means using smaller containers and splitting the same type of candy into two or three jars. A table with just a few jars, however big they are, will look sparse. More jars and more variety give the best effect.

Choose colors and types of candy that complement the theme and décor of the wedding – for instance, heart-shaped wedding candy in red and pink for a Valentine's Day wedding or icy blue and white for a winter theme. Multicolored candy tables are always a hit, but the candy buffet should always match the wedding as a whole, not stand out on its own.

The best thing about wedding candy is customizing the table to suit the bride and groom's sweet tooth. A candy buffet can focus on chocolate, hard candy, gummies, or salty snacks - or on a combination of more than one of these tastes:

  • Chocolate – kisses, chocolate covered nuts, mints, brittle, fudge, tiny candy bars, truffles, dipped fruits
  • Hard Candy – old fashioned rock candy, mints, fruit candies, candy corn, lollipops, hearts
  • Gummies – gummy worms, bears, fruits, root beers, sours, jelly beans
  • Salty – pretzels, goldfish, nuts, fortune cookies, crackers, popcorn, chips

Variations on the Wedding Candy Buffet

For those who are planning a small wedding and don't want to go overboard on sweets that are likely to be wasted, it's possible to design a small wedding candy buffet that will look just as glamorous as a big one.

Purchase filler boxes or smaller jars to set inside the candy jars, so they will look full with less candy. Scatter the table with flower vases, votive candles, and other decorations in the style of the reception that will make the table look busy even with a smaller selection of candy. If worst comes to worst, don't worry about having too much – candy lasts a long time and it's easy to find someone who'll be happy to receive it!

Candy is a popular choice for wedding party favors, and a candy buffet allows guests to make their own favors with decorative bags or boxes that they can take home with them. Offering a wide selection of candy choices and sizes ensures that everyone will find something to their taste.
