Wedding candy is much more than Jordan almonds wrapped in tulle. Here are ways to use candy as personalized wedding favors or a unique dessert.

The key to candy wedding favors is beautiful packaging. Any selection of candy, such as mints, covered nuts, lollipops or chocolates, can serve as wedding favors when presented in a stylish wrapper or box or a beautiful organza or cellophane pouch. One way of distributing candy favors is with a wedding candy buffet. Wedding candy buffets can also serve as a dessert at a reception.

Personalized Wedding Favors: Unique Designs and Types of Candy

“Personalized candy wrappers with the couple's name and wedding details offer an alternative to the traditional tulle and ribbon-wrapped wedding candy,” advises Whimsy Wraps, a wedding favor designer. These wedding favors are chocolate bars wrapped in a unique, personalized design. Many online candy stores offer wedding candy wrappers. The bars can either be given as wedding favors or used as unique place cards/favors.

The choice of candy and candy wrappers is diverse enough that brides can choose colors to match their bouquets, their bridesmaids’ gowns and their reception colors. Popular types of candy to use as candy favors include:

  • Hershey Kisses
  • Candy hearts
  • Mints
  • Heart lollipops
  • Flower lollipops (tulips and roses are available from several online candy stores)

Jordan Almonds: Traditional Candy Favors

If a bride wants to stay traditional with her wedding candy she can choose Jordan almonds, also known as sugared almonds or confetti. The sweet candy and the bitter almond inside symbolize the bittersweet experiences a couple will have in their married life together. Candy importer Kis adds that five candies are given in each wedding favor to represent health, wealth, happiness, longevity and fertility. Jordan almonds are also available in pastel colors.

The Wedding Candy Buffet: A Nostalgic Candy Favor, a Delicious Dessert

Wedding candy buffets or candy stations are a way for guests at a reception to receive the perfect wedding favor and for everyone to re-live some childhood memories. Several jars of candy are set out with scoops. Ribbons, wraps and organza or cellophane pouches are set out for guests to use as they fill their own candy favors with their favorite candy. Alternatively, the candy buffet can be used instead of a traditional sweets table.

Style at a wedding candy buffet is key to a glamorous candy station. Vintage apothecary jars, giant martini glasses or old-fashioned candy dishes make pink Gummi Bears and heart-shaped mints bought at the Bulk Barn chic and fun. Depending on the guest list, brides may want to consider sugar free candy and chocolates as well. A bride must also decide when the candy station will be open to guests – all through the reception, after the dinner or after the speeches?

Buying Enough Candy Favors for a Wedding Reception

A bride must also buy enough for each guest, a sometimes tricky calculation. The size of the guest list, the type of candy and the kind of reception being held are three factors when deciding how much wedding candy to buy. Local bulk candy stores or online candy stores can advise a bride on how much to buy for the reception. The general rule is to shoot for a full and plentiful wedding candy buffet and not risk running out.
